|Onderwerp: ANCYL seeks donations for Malema fine Thu May 13, 2010 5:28 pm|| |
Johannesburg - A R10 000 fine levied on ANC Youth League president Julius Malema will be paid through member donations, ANCYL secretary general Vuyiswa Tulelo said on Thursday.
"We'll mobilise young people to raise the money," Tulelo told reporters at a meeting of the ANCYL's national executive committee.
Tulelo said this was because Malema did not act individually, but on behalf of the ANCYL.
She also took issue with procedures under which Malema was disciplined, and said that these would be taken up with the ANC.
She said Malema had already apologised to President Jacob Zuma for his remarks and would continue to apologise.
"The president of the Youth League has apologised from that day and has continued to apologise... and we will still apologise to South Africa because some of the things we say are not facilitating things," she said.
Malema was hauled before an ANC disciplinary hearing last week.
It withdrew charges against him of publicly supporting Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF party, calling a BBC journalist a "bastard" and a "bloody agent", and singing "shoot the boer" after it was banned by a high court.
However, it found him guilty of charges relating to his public attack on Zuma for rebuking him in public, and in which Malema compared Zuma to his predecessor Thabo Mbeki.
Malema was ordered to attend anger-management classes, make a public apology to Zuma, the ANC and the public in general and pay a fine of R10 000 to a youth development project.
He was also ordered to attend the party's political school for 20 days.
