Gambler hurt in casino robbery
Mafikeng - A local journalist was killed during a hotel and casino robbery in Mafikeng, North West police said on Thursday.
Colonel Lesego Metsi said around five men armed with R5 rifles entered Mmabatho Palms shortly before midnight on Wednesday and ordered everyone to lie on the ground.
The men broke into the slot machines to steal coins and robbed the exchange where cash and chips are traded. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
They shot one bystander, a man, before fleeing.
"There was one journalist for a local paper, he was shot dead from behind through the chest," said Metsi.
"What could have led to this killing is not yet known. It is suspected that they realised he had a camera and so he was shot."
No arrests have been made yet, said Metsi.
