Johannesburg - Police have launched a manhunt for three men who stole a "substantial" amount of money from the cargo section of the East London Airport on Monday morning, a spokesperson said.
A security officer had gone to drop off foreign exchange money when a man allegedly drew a firearm and demanded the money at 10:30, said Lieutenant-Colonel Mtati Tana.
"The security officer hid behind a counter and the man fired two shots.
"After a while the officer looked up and realised that three bags of money were missing."
He was seen driving way in a silver Toyota Corolla with two other men.
The vehicle, which was found to have been stolen from Grahamstown, was recovered abandoned in Sunnyridge.
No one was injured in the robbery.
