Recently my fiancée was admitted to the Netcare Rosebank Clinic. She was there for three days as she underwent many tests.
My quarrel is the parking at this hospital. Not only is the parking across the road (literally), but the fees they charge are unbelievable.
Shouldn't the hundreds of thousands of rands that we pay to these hospitals be enough to let visitors park for free?
Visiting hours are three hours per day, at R16.00 per hour, that's R48.00 per day - just to visit a loved one and make sure that they okay.
Another note is that none of the Life Healthcare hospitals charge for parking. I wonder what's so different between Life Healthcare and Netcare? They both are private institutions after all.
Well I guess society will always get ripped off and we can moan and groan all we like. NOTHING REALLY HAPPENS!
And then some of us wonder why people compliment places like Canada with their FREE health and education. Shame on you South Africa.

Ok the charge of R16 a hour is heavy, I think there should be a fee, But maybee R5.00 I understand property costs are expensive in Rosebank, it is prime Property afterall, but it seems they are running a lucritive buisness out of there car park

If the parking is restricted like in a building where there are guards and maintenance I don't mind to pay, but If it is a big open space I would also complain. Remember most of these places in the cities has a lot of people working for them, they all must get paid and the company must make a profit too.

You'll cry when you hear this: I have personally experienced of another Netcare hospital where staff members have to pay R15 per day for parking in the parking area. If they don't want to pay that, they have to park in the street with no securtiy what so ever. They are also not allowed to use the main entrance to the hospital, they have to use a back entrance. Now that stinks....

I agree with Author.
We went to a Priv Hosp in PTA - Same Story.
They make heaps of money, at some places you still find a car guard also there with open hands, why the hell have both ? but of course our moaning will amount to nothing.

If you are a patient visiting the hospital for treatment, do you have to pay as well?

I suspect it has more to do with the location than the chain of hospitals, my son was in Netcare Olivedale recently and they don't charge for parking, however I know that Sunninghill and ROsebank both do as does Parklane.

Hey, look at the bright side, parking at the JHB morgue is free!

Veroon, those are YOUR loved ones. I own shares in Netcare, so MY loved ones get the benefit of the company's good business acumen. So pay your parking, Veroon, stop only thinking about yourself. Or book your loved ones into a government hospital, to die, alone, in a dirty, urine-stained bed...
