Burglars shoot man, run off
Johannesburg - A man was shot in a Honeydew complex, northwest of Johannesburg, in the early hours of Thursday morning, paramedics reported.
"The 52-year-old father of the house said that he woke up when there was a noise near the bed. As he opened his eyes, he made out four unknown black males standing in his room," said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.
"He then let out a scream which must have given the men a fright, and one of them who was holding a gun, let out a shot, after which it seems that they ran away from the scene."
Jackson said the man suffered wounds to the chest and back.
He was rushed to hospital where he was in a stable condition.
His wife and two daughters were unharmed.
"The family of four is believed to have moved in to the complex in Honeydew, Roodepoort, in February of this year," said Jackson.
"The Honeydew SAPS were on the scene to collect evidence for investigation purposes. It also seems that the criminals managed to make off with an unknown number of valuables."
The police said a statement would be issued later in the day.
