An insider who attended the meeting by the top five leaders of the ANCYL led by Julius Malema and the ANC top six told Avusa Media LIVE that the youth league has agreed to send Mantashe and Tulelo to Eastern Cape to persuade the disbanded PEC to withdraw the case.
The ANCYL Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee approached the High Court in Grahamstown to stop its national leadership from proceeding with a Provincial Congress on 2 July 2010 but which now has been scheduled to take place on 10 July 2010.
Speaking exclusively to Avusa Media LIVE before the meeting, ANCYL Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee chairperson Mlibo Qoboshiyana confirmed that they are going to meet the two leaders.
Qoboshiyana said: "We are quite pleased with the response of our officials, particularly the office of the Secretary-General of the ANC, because it has been widely indicated that there is no need for an ANC intervention on this matter, but we appreciate their efforts to meet us.
"When it comes to the withdrawal of the case, it was never our intention from day one to engage on this matter in such a fashion because we know it is alien to the ANC to go to court," he said.
"We were forced by circumstances and the kind of arrogance that were displayed. Now that we have been given the opportunity to go and meet with the Secretary-General, we shall indeed prove that we want the congress as soon as possible, a reputable one without flaws and without the kind of corruption we are seeing."
