Johannesburg - A woman committed suicide at her home in Raslouw on Thursday, two days after her husband was murdered, Pretoria police said.
Farzaana Naidoo, 23, whose husband was shot while sitting in his car in the Menlyn Park shopping centre parking lot on Tuesday, used his shotgun to kill herself on the day he was to be buried.
Spokesperson Louise Reed said Naidoo's body was found in her bedroom.
Although she did not leave a note, police were convinced that she had committed suicide because of the death of her husband, Kushalen.
On hearing of his death, she had told The Star: "I just want to tell him [Kushalen] that I love him. I want him to know that he will be mine forever", according to the newspaper's website on Thursday.
"A security guard who was in Menlyn Mall when [Kushalen Naidoo] was ambushed, said he saw a car pull up next to his car and a passenger jumped from the front seat," said Reed.
The man pulled out a gun and shot Naidoo four times. He returned fire, possibly wounding his assailant.
"Blood samples collected on the scene indicate that the suspect was also caught [wounded] when the victim returned fire," said Reed.
Police were searching hospitals in and around Pretoria in case the wounded gunman went for treatment.
The motive for Naidoo's murder was not known, as the gunman fled without taking anything.
Reid said Naidoo and his wife would be buried together on Friday.
